Exploring Simplicity in a Complex World

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

- Matthew 11:28-30

The String Quartet

By Shelley | April 13, 2019

Imagine walking into a concert hall with the sound of music filling the air.  Beautiful strains greet you as the string quartet performs.  You notice each musician is concentrating on his or her own part, while simultaneously being aware of the integration of sound.  Usually, the lead violin carries the primary melody while the second […]

Dealing with the Gnats!

By Shelley | April 8, 2019

Spring is a great time to be outdoors.  The temperatures are just right – not too cold, not too hot.  Flowers are beginning to pop up out of the soil, and nearby farm fields are being planted.  Recently, I had the opportunity to be with others for a few hours on a warm day.  What […]

Family Meals with a Twist

By Shelley | March 29, 2019

In my family, gatherings always begin with plenty of chatter and catching up.  At the appointed time, above the din someone is heard saying, “get to the table!”  Once everyone is quiet (usually this requires a second shout), we offer thanks to God for His blessing of food and loved ones.  It only takes a […]

My Review of the Best Book Ever Written

By Shelley | March 21, 2019

Ratings.  Before heading out to a restaurant, buying a car, or working with a new business, we look at the online ratings.  What was the experience of others?  Good or bad?  The best is 5 stars, so if a lot of people give this rating, we can be fairly certain we will have a positive […]

Doing or Being?

By Shelley | March 16, 2019

When is the last time, in describing your plans for the evening, you said “I will do with my friend?” How about when you’re telling someone about your upcoming family weekend – do you describe it as “I will do with my family?”  Or perhaps this summer, “I will do at a picnic or will […]

What if DIY doesn’t work?

By Shelley | March 8, 2019

As I look around my house, I see things in need of repair.  Some are small easy tasks, some are large overwhelming projects.  In an age of the DIY (do it yourself) stores and TV shows, and with an overall “can do” attitude, I think I can fix anything. Oh really? Well, truthfully, some of […]

Love, Love, Love

By Shelley | March 3, 2019

There is a lot of talk these days about love.  Often it is in connection with comments like, “well if you love me, you will…”, or it is questioned if someone’s opinion differs from another.  Surely it can only be love, if I get something in return!  It seems it has been reduced to emotion […]

When I See You, I See God

By Shelley | February 22, 2019

What do you see when you look in the mirror?  Have you ever stopped to really consider the person who is looking back at you? Go back in your mind to a day you enjoyed at an art museum or to a special evening at the symphony.  You paused to spend extra moments viewing something that caught your eye, […]

It’s the Beginning!

By Shelley | February 14, 2019

Many of us find ourselves traveling through times in life that are difficult. We can’t seem to find the way forward. It’s as though we are in a desert with the sun relentlessly beating down on us. We are so thirsty for answers, and all we desire is some shade and refuge. Indeed, we just […]

"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken."

- Psalm 62 : 5-6

The Purpose of Faith Matters

Through this blog, I hope to offer followers of Christ both challenge and encouragement straight from the word of God. No matter where you are in your walk with the Lord, Scripture has valuable lessons for your life and I hope to illuminate those through Faith Matters. Furthermore, I want to highlight the simplicity of God's message. You don't need to go to seminary to understand the Bible. Rather, you only need an open and willing heart and the dedication to dive into what He has to say to you through His word.
